Finally, a big thank you!

I have really enjoyed creating this blog using our family archive. Who would ever have guessed that a Global Pandemic would be the reason I finally found the time to do it ? Coronavirus 19 has given rise to many challenges for everyone but, as always, my family has shown resilience and we have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of working collaboratively on this project with the amazing technology now available which has enabled us to do that. We are clearly all hoarders of ‘stuff’ but who knew that would one day prove to be useful as we’ve all dug around in boxes and scrapbooks?!! So thank you Mum, Dad, Fiona & Helen for your input and encouragement, and thank you Peter for pushing me over the hurdles of technological challenges. Helen & Kester rose admirably to the technical challenge of getting stills off a not-very-high-quality ciné film.

But another big thank you must, of course, go to our grandparents who kept all those letters, and who wrote to us, keeping us in touch with our family, and who encouraged us to go and seek experiences, despite the loss that meant to them by not being able to see us.

Nanny & Grandad – Joyce & John Pring – with their grandchildren and great-niece at their Golden Wedding in 1982.
Grandma & Grandad – Bill & Jo Cole – with Fiona, Helen and Juliet in 1974.

And last, but by no means least, thank you Mum & Dad, for taking us to Kenya, and for encouraging a sense of adventure in all of us.

  1. Hello
I came across this blog and I think I remember Juliet! I was a student at Loreto Convent at the same time and remember Sister Pauline and having to sing the Kenyan national anthem in the quad.
By the way my name is Cheryl.

  2. Hello Juliet and family, I came across this blog last night when Googling Alliance High School. This collection of letters, diary entries, photos, drawings, etc. is a wonderful story of your time in Kenya. I am the Karen Lewis who features in your Blog.
