Letter from Judy to Tony & Barbara 18 Jan 1977 –
Compound life is changing – the Elsons finish in a week or so and the Kinshotts, Meyers and Philip Chesterton are going in Feb, and Mowat and Thomas Stevenson go on leave. Myrtle expects her 4th any day now. Paula Allsop has gone and Jack Coyne we’re expecting to be moved any day.
Letter from Judy to Caroline & Martin 8 Mar 1977 –
You may have heard that Pam followed your example and produced a baby Kinshott boy on March 1st – no details yet – but Colin cut it a bit fine as he only got back on the Friday before. The latest news is the departure of Wangai at Easter for more lucrative fields – Cooper Motor Co Ltd to be exact. His replacement is as yet unknown. Fred Welch is apparently much upset and thinks it immoral for one of Wangai’s ‘socialist’ principles to change job for his own gain. Certainly it’s not too good for Alliance to have such a high turn over of headmasters. The place is changing anyway – by the end of the year there will only be a few stalwarts left such as Welch, Williams & Stevenson.
Letter from Graham to Tony & Barbara 10 Mar 1977 –
We have seen a couple of babies recently who seemed amazingly small – Myrtle Stevenson’s and Tom Ray’s (I can’t remember his wife’s name). Emma Lewis is big now and sits up in her pushchair for walks around the compound.
Diary entry by Helen 10 May 1977 –
This morning when I walked down the road to be collected for the school run I saw some daffodils which amazed me as I didn’t know they grew out here. I feel a bit lonely waiting on my own because Juliet does not come.
Letter from Juliet to Grandma & Grandad 26 May 1977 –
The Stevenson family are going on leave about four weeks before we leave but they live in Ireland and are also having some time in Austria, Italy, Greece and Germany so I doubt if we will see them again.
Letter from Judy to Caroline & Martin 22 June 1977 –
Marie Bourgeois is expecting an addition in mid-August and is full of beans – unlike last time when I gather she was ill from start to finish ending up with a Caesarian.
