Letter from Judy to Jo 28 Mar 1975 –
Graham took the minibus down to the Chyulus where the cave they are surveying is, and came back with the engine completely bunged up with long grass and seeds – no wonder it boiled all the way home. When I cleaned it out it looked as if 30 birds had nested in it and it took 4 hours to clear the radiator by running water through the grids. Also the corrugations on the road were so bad that Graham has had to have both king pins in the front suspension renewed ! Murram roads always develop corrugations after a few months and each vehicle that passes makes them worse – they are just like wave ripples on sand only bigger, 1-2ft across and up to 6 inches deep. Really the only way to drive on them is to go so fast that one just skates over the top but then of course you have no steering control !
