Last trip to the coast & Tsavo.

Letter from Graham to Grandma & Grandad 25 July 1977 –

School has ended and we are holidaying at the coast again (at Jadini Beach campsite). Yesterday was sunny and we got a bit sunburnt and today has started with a little rain and no sun. The tide is high and the children are playing at the water’s edge – simple games like throwing into the waves pieces of driftwood and coconut shells. I expect we will stay until Tuesday next week – we are camping so we can please ourselves. A friend has lent us his Volkswagen van, complete with gas rings and kitchen sink. I wish you could be here. The warm, pure air, palm trees and the seashore have an amazing, calming effect on us. They create a peacefulness which is unique for me and I wish I had the imagination to recapture it at will.

Diary entry by Juliet 2 Aug 1977 –

Once more we are in Tsavo West Game Park but this is the last visit during our time living at Alliance Boys High School. On 23 July we drove, in a borrowed VW Combi, to Hunters Lodge, about 50 miles down the Mombasa Road from Nairobi. Here we stayed for a night. We had two rooms for the 5 of us.
