I have really enjoyed creating this blog using our family archive. Who would ever have guessed that a Global Pandemic would be the reason I finally found the time to do it ? Reminiscence by Juliet: We flew back to the UK via a few days in Greece where we hired a Fiat 106 which turned out to be a rather small car for 3 long-legged girls and a vast quantity of luggage including such random things as a hockey stick ! No such thing as air con… Continue reading Back to the UK via Greece.

Letter from Judy to Nanny & Grandad 4 May 1977 – The rains have been, and still are, very heavy this year so coming back from our holiday at the coast was a bit of a let down for all of us, especially getting used to flooded roads and oceans of mud everywhere which makes… Continue reading Rainy season.

Diary entry by Helen 25 Apr 1977 – This morning we all dressed in safari boots or wellies because we were going to the marsh. It is just out of the Alliance school boundary, past the farm. About

In January 1975, just one day after my 12th birthday, my family flew to Kenya. Dad, Graham, had taken a two and a half year contract with the UK Government’s Overseas Development Agency to teach. My sisters Helen & Fiona were nearly 8 and 5. Mum, Judy, did a lot of the letter writing and our grandparents Nanny & Grandad (Mum’s parents) and Grandma & Grandad kept all/most of the letters they received so we ended up with this amazing archive. I have not edited wording, only cut and used the paragraphs I think relevant to the topic.
